THERE has still been no decision made over the extension of Josh Lelan’s work experience loan deal.

The Derby youngster joined Town on a month long deal that expires after Saturday’s home fixture with Crewe and has made one start, that coming against Scunthorpe on the opening day.

The former England under 18 defender also came off the bench to replace Massimo Luongo on Tuesday night at Gillingham.

In his pre-match press conference yesterday Mark Cooper said nothing had been decided on his future at the club adding it was unlikely any further deals would be struck for other signings before the weekend.

Former Sydney United striker Joel Chianese is training with Town until the end of the week when a decision will be made on his future.

Cooper said on Chianese: “He’s a striker more of a number 10 than a number nine. He likes to link the play up and score goals and he’s done ok.”

With no news of anyone new coming in, I would think an extended month or three for Josh will be on the cards. I thought he did OK against Scunthorpe considering it was his début at this level. If we don't extend his stay it will leave us with very little cover at the back as I can't see him bringing Darren Ward back in and nobody knows how much longer we have to wait for the expected new arrival.

The Chianese lad sounds like he might be worth a gamble, according to Mark, he links play, scores goals and has done OK. Whether he can do it at league 1 level is another question, we had big hopes for the Egyptian guy last year after a trial we gave him a 6 month contract , but when he got his chance to show what he could do unfortunately he wasn't quite up to the level we needed.

If Sherwood gets the job why should we expect 3 or 4 loan players from them? Does anyone know that they have 3 or 4 players who are good enough to play for us.? There seems to a be strange assumption that all Premier League clubs have a raft of good players who are (a) currently surplus to requirements and (b) good enough to compete at our level. Can't see it myself.

spus certainly had few that we have borrowed and done reasonably well a couple of them are still with us so why shouldnt we tap into sherwoods reserves again albeit with a diffrent club

Fine if they have some who are good enough. Two of the ones we got from Spurs weren't up to it and one of them didn't even look interested.

Sherwood has said he is no longer interested in the Palace job.
