GOALS from Yaser Kasim and Andy Williams ensured that Swindon Town maintained their 100 per cent start at the County Ground this term as they disposed of a poor Crewe Alexandra side with ease.

Mark Cooper was forced to make one change from Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Gillingham with Louis Thompson returning from his one-match ban to replace the injured Massimo Luongo.

And without the Australian international’s creativity in the middle of the park Town took their time to settle in what a dismal opening by both teams.

However, as Swindon looked to play possession football, Crewe, who began the day second-from-bottom in League One, hustled their hosts off the ball.

But as the heavens opened, Town came into life, pushing forward and drawing a number of fine saves from the Alex keeper Ben Garratt.

The deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes before the interval when Louis Thompson was brought down 25 yards out. Kasim stood over the ball and the Iraqi international curled the ball over the Crewe wall and beyond Garratt.

Swindon continued to pile on the pressure late in the opening period as they searched for a second before the interval, but they could not find a way past Garratt.

After a dull opening 10 minutes to the second half, where Town struggled to push forward despite holding the lion’s share of the ball, Michael Smith woke everyone up.

On-loan defender Brad Smith got hold of a loose ball and his cross found the Town striker in the centre of the box but his header hit the crossbar and Crewe scrambled away the danger.

Kasim nearly doubled the Town advantage midway through the second period. A free-kick from 35 yards was pushed over by Garratt.

But Town’s lead was doubled on 76 minutes when Andy Williams made a driving run into the Crewe box and he slid the ball beyond Garratt for his second goal of the campaign after opening his account at Gillingham in midweek.
