International presence is a motivator for Louis

LOUIS Thompson says the presence of three internationals in the Town squad is pushing him to further his own international ambitions.

The younger Thompson brother has been capped previously by Wales at under 19 level and also featured in one of Geraint Thomas’s early under 21 squads but has not been asked back since March 2013.

Yaser Kasim has made the last two Iraq squads, Massimo Luongo went to the World Cup with Australia and Brad Smith has just received his first call-up to join the Socceroos as well.

Thompson feels inspired by his three teammates and sees the benefit of their experience rubbing off on the squad.

“When you’ve got internationals in your team and training with internationals week-by-week I don’t think that’s a bad thing to have,” he said.

“It pushes each and every one of you, to get international recognition.”

“Every player has been growing in stature (this season), I don’t think there’s been one bad performance by any player this season – off the bench, anywhere.

“Our subs have been outstanding, Connor (Waldon), George (Barker) when he come on (against Brighton) looked lively.”

On this weekend’s game the 19-year-old believes Town can overcome their injury struggles and continue to play in the same fashion as they have begun the season.

“It is going to be very tough but like I say there’s enough character in there to pull together,” he added.

“You saw Tuesday night with ten men we can pull together on put on a show, don’t be surprised on Saturday again. They players we’ve got here are all fantastic and we can all do it a good enough job.”

Don't think Louis can be too far away for another call up for the Welsh under 21's, he is only 19 so would be available for selection for another season or two. IMO he's improved no end and is no longer the fringe player he was last season, Coopers preferred midfield trio is Luango, Kasim and Louis, with Gladwin when fit close to establishing a regular place and can stand in for any of them.

Too early to say with Anton Rodgers as we haven't seen anything of him, but at this point of time I would say he is unlikely to be considered for a starting selection unless one of our stars are sold or injured.
