JON Obika says that he is not yet firing on all cylinders as he prepares to make his home debut tonight.

The 24-year-old marked the start of second Swindon Town spell on Saturday with two goals to seal the points at Bradford City.

That was the striker’s first competitive match since the end of last season. With him now settling in at Swindon he is looking forward to getting back to full match fitness.

“It was first game in probably about a month or so, so I’m getting back into it, especially training,” said Obika, who was named in the Football League’s team of the week for his Bradford display.

“I’m working hard and hopefully the fitness will get to that peak.

“I think you have to keep sharp even if you are not playing, you have to keep sharp in training and when you get your chance you have to take it.”

The striker, who spent a little more than two months at Swindon at the start of 2011, is looking forward to reacquainting himself with the Town faithful this evening when Oldham Athletic come to SN1.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he said. “Even if I didn’t score (against Bradford), I’d look forward to playing at the County Ground.

“I did wish my first game was at the County Ground, but I’m sure it will be lively on Tuesday.”

Having shown his predatory instincts at Valley Parade, Obika is confident that the Town midfield of Massimo Luongo, Yaser Kasim, Louis Thompson and Jake Reeves will be able to provide him with the service that he requires.

“You can see for yourself they are great players,” Obika said. “Even (Jake) Reevesie off the bench came on (at Bradford) and made an impact.”
