NATHAN Byrne believes having a settled position in the Swindon Town side has helped improve his game this term.

Having found himself playing in several positions last term, Mark Cooper has employed the former Tottenham youngster as a right wing-back this season.

And the 22-year-old has put in several fine displays and has seen his final ball delivery go from strength to strength.

“I'm just trying to contribute to the team with as many assists and created chances as I can,” he said.

“I played pretty much everywhere last season and I think it is helping me at the moment that I'm sticking to one position because I can work on that specifically, in my movements and how I play in that position.

“ I’m really enjoying playing on the right side, a bit higher up as a wing-back instead of a full-back.

“I just want to carry on playing like I am and hopefully we can keep getting results.”

Byrne believes that Swindon’s style of possession football is working in League One and by not changing their gameplan helps them improve.

“The football we're trying to play is a lot more free-flowing,” he said. “I think it's helping us that, regardless of the opposition we come up against.

“We're sticking to our formation, because then week in, week out, we can practice that in training and through the week, instead of the boys having to change their game plans.

“The way we set up, it's about us really and if we do our game plan well enough, then we can beat any team in the league and that's what's helped us mainly from last year.”

While Swindon has shown their style pushing forward down the wings and through the centre of the park, three of their last four goals have come from set pieces - two of them from Byrne.

The wing-back says that it is because of the new aerial threat the team possess which has seen him do plenty of work on his delivery.

“The team, from last year, is completely different and there are boys in there that have got aerial threat,” he said.

“So I've been working hard on my deliveries now that I've been put on corners and we've scored two from my side in the last two games, so I'm very happy about that.”
