WOOTTON Bassett Town may have won 5-1 against Hellenic League Premier Division basement boys Cheltenham Saracens, but manager Paul Braithwaite was not happy with his team.

Bassett went in at half-time trailing to a Leigh Rayston goal goal.

However, a brace from Dan Bailey as well as strikes from Steve Yeardley, Shaun Terry and James Skinner gave the hosts their third win in succession.

Yet despite the turnaround, Braithwaite was far from pleased.

“We were atrocious in the first-half,” the Bassett boss told the Advertiser.

“We disrespected Cheltenham Saracens and that is not what this club is about.

“You have to give Saracens a bit of credit because they came and gave it go.

“They are not the best team in the league and if we had played a better team we could have been 3-0 down at the break.”

Braithwaite said that there was no ranting and raving during the 15 minute interval but insisted that even though his side were in front quickly he was still seething.

“We were 2-1 up within 10 minutes of the second-half, but we shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place.

“To be fair I was still annoyed at 3-1, 4-1 and 5-1, the lads will be happy that they won, but I’m not happy with the performance.”

Meanwhile, Shrivenham fell to a 4-2 home defeat to Ardley United.

The visitors, who face Shrivvy player-boss Sam Collier’s father Mark’s side Chippenham Town in the FA Cup next weekend, took the lead in the eighth minute through Ricky Johnson.

However, Matt Bennett restored parity for the hosts.

But Johnson went on to complete his hat-trick at Barrington Park, while Bennett the other Shrivenham goal to add to his first.
