TOWN are ready for their biggest test, according to wing-back Nathan Byrne, as they look for a repeat of last season’s home win against Sheffield United.

Swindon may be facing one of the pre-season favourites, but Byrne expects the visitors, who have a big physical presence, to try and stifle their open style of play.

The former Tottenham youngster has faith in the way his team mates are trying to play football this season and if they stick to their principles believes that Town can come out on top.

“We always know that Sheffield United are going to be a big, strong side and they're going to get right at us and try and stop us playing,” said the 22-year-old.

“I think the way the result will go depends on how well we deal with that and I think our talent will come through if we can deal with them pressing us.

“I think Sheffield United will be right up there come the end of the season, so it will a massive test for us and hopefully the boys can get a result there and it will show us where we really are.”

In the same fixture last season, Byrne played a pivotal role in the injury-time winner from Louis Thompson.

Swindon caught the Blades on the counter attack, with both sides going for the win, and, after Miles Storey found Byrne in the box, he was able to lay the ball back to Thompson whose shot crept over the line.

The last-gasp strike gave Town all three points after an early Storey strike was cancelled out by Michael Doyle.

“I remember Louis' late goal,” added Byrne, who thinks the County Ground faithful will have a big impact on the game.

“I came on and I was involved in that goal and that was a massive win for us.

“I think the fans are great here and this year, even better than last year.

“I think the fans, as we play more the way we are, are starting to see the way we're trying to break teams down and hopefully they're enjoying the football we're trying to play.”
