TOWN Ladies boss Steve Robertson was left to rue a series of missed chances as his side succumbed to a 2-2 draw with game’s final kick.

The visitors, Exeter City, came to spoil Swindon’s play, opting for a direct style. It was successful in so far as they managed to get a point but Town should have scored more than the two strikes they managed.

Twice Meg Vella had the ball in the net only for her efforts to be ruled out for offside and on several occasion the Devonians survived goal mouth scrambles.

It left Robertson a bit disappointed, but with Town still unbeaten he could still see the positives.

“We should have won the game comfortably,” he told the Advertiser. “We just couldn’t take our chances, we scored a goal to go 2-1 up with 30 seconds to go, then they equalised with last kick of the game.

“I’ll now be picking the players up and also telling them they should be taking their chances. Exeter kicked the ball as long as often as they could and a draw was a good result for them.

“We had two goals disallowed for tight offsides, balls in box, and goal line clearances etc. We just couldn’t will it over the line.

“It was another good performance and we have to take the positives, we’re still unbeaten.

“At the start of the season if you’d offered me the points we have now by this stage I probably would have taken it.”

Ellie Maynard had given Town the lead in the fifth minute. Sarah Uzzell pulling back for the waiting Maynard who toe poked in from the edge of the area.

Maynard then went close again with a free kick that the City ‘keeper Carley Barber did well to push onto the bar and at the other end only a goaline clearance by Chenise Austen prevented Helen Kukior from levelling the scores.

Eight minutes before the break the visitors drew level when Helen Kukor opened up the Town’s defence for Natasha Knapman to run clear and score.

With the game deep into injury time Beth Thompson looked to have secured Swindon the points. She cut in from the right to give to score but straight from the restart Courtney Butt ran clear to equalise with the last kick of the game.

Next up for Town is a local derby away at Cheltenham Town.
