SWINDON Wildacts D-man Alex Symonds says they cannot get carried away by how they have started the new season.

The Link Centre side will head to Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday on the back of two successive away wins - against reigning champions Manchester Phoenix and Guildford Flames.

The win in Altrincham was Cats’ first in Manchester, while Sunday’s 4-2 success over the Flames saw Ryan Aldridge’s men avenge the defeat to Guildford the previous night and also saw them fight back from 2-0 down.

And while the rest of the EPL teams may be wary of a visit from Swindon, Welshman Symonds says the team are keeping their blades firmly on the ice.

“We can’t get ahead of ourselves,” Symonds told the Advertiser.

“We have to stay grounded, we have to compete every night, we have to take it game by game.”

Swindon’s fine start to the new campaign has been in stark contrast to years gone by and former Great Britain under 20s international says that they cannot dwell on the past.

“I have been hearing that (Wildcats normally have a poor start to the season),” the 26-year-old said.

“I have heard that they start slow then they pick it up over Christmas and the second half of the season is pretty good.

“But you can’t dwell on seasons that have gone past, you have to take it game by game.

“I think we have got a team that wants to work hard, do the basics, get off the passes, drive the net and work all over the ice, this is a bit of step up from last year.”
