Troy Batchelor is not fazed by the favourite tag that has been placed on the Robins ahead of the Elite League play-offs and is confident his team mates can get the job done at Coventry Bees.

Fresh off the back of claiming the Elite League Riders Championship in King’s Lynn on Thursday it is no wonder that the Aussie rider isn’t afraid to puff his chest out going into the business end of the season.

Add to that Batchelor’s impressive record at Coventry and the 27-year-old expects the Robins to make it into the Grand Final.

“If they can sort the track out then it is an awesome place to go,” said Batchelor

“My history there is usually pretty good, I have had maximums there and everything but I am not too bothered about it.

“Everyone thinks that we are the ones to watch because we have all hit form in the team and I think we are going to win but we have to take it a step at a time.

“We’ll go Monday and the goal is to win to make it easy for the next one, if you don’t win bring it within a couple of points.”

Thursday night’s Elite League Riders Championship was meant to be held at Brandon Stadium earlier this year but a poor track meant it had to be pushed back and the venue was changed.

The condition of the track won’t affect the Swindon riders though who have proven in the past that they can ride on anything.

Batchelor is hoping that the Robins recent demolition of Coventry at the Abbey will play on the minds of Coventry riders ahead of the meet.

“By the looks of it (the track) it hasn’t really had what the old Coventry used to be so hopefully they can get it sorted out,” added the Aussie.

“Either way, if it is poor or if it is good, we’ll go there and attack it, we have to ride it and we aren’t scared to ride it.

“Swindon has been rough in the past and people come and complain about it but we still smash them 60-30 so we can ride anything.

“Coventry know they got a smashing there (at the Abbey) last time and everyone has seen what team we can be at home.

“The track is awesome at Swindon now, the last couple of months Ron has really got it sorted there and we are all really happy with it and with a good track that is what you can do.”

If the Robins were to come through against Coventry they would be facing King’s Lynn or Poole Pirates, who meet at the Norfolk Arena on Monday, in the two-legged grand final.

Batchelor would not be drawn into picking a winner of the other semi-final but believes the guests that ride could play a key role.

“It is hard to say because I don’t know who they are going to get to guest, they are all going to have half a team and patched up teams  which isn’t really ideal so it depends who their guests are,” he said.

“I think their guests are going to make a difference for if they win or lose the match.”
