WRAG Barn’s Matt Mumford reflected positively as he finished sixth overall and under 21s runner-up in the Lee Westwood Tour finals at Close House Golf Club near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Mumford was the gross winner of the 2013 event but could not find his touch on the greens as he lost out by three shots to eventual winner Ryan Anderton.

“I swung and struck the ball as well as I have all year,” Mumford told the Advertiser.

“It was my putting that cost me winning it to be honest. I had a spell of three straight bogeys, at five, six and seven, then another at nine, that stopped me getting momentum.

“I pulled it back with a couple of birdies and won nearest the pin on 10, but it wasn’t quite enough.

“I feel quite positive, I know I didn’t play my best in all different aspects of my game but it was still a good day. I got the a chance to meet to Lee Westwood which was great.”

Will Baker and Tom Finney will take a lot from their finals experience, both finishing in the middle of the leaderboard.
