JOHN Fisher admitted his Highworth Town side needed a half-time talking-to before they put Newbury to the sword tonight.

Highworth keeper Gary Stevens was called into action on a number of occasions as the visitors, who also missed from the spot, pressed in the opening half.

But Town still went into the break a goal to the good as hotshot TJ Bohane followed up his weekend hat-trick with the opener.

Highworth were much improved after the break and Bohane added his second with Josh McGrory also on target for the home side.

Fisher said: “We didn’t play that well in the first half and I had a bit of a moan at half time.

“They (Newbury) missed a penalty and our keeper made a couple of cracking saves, but in the second half it was a complete change and we could have had two or three more.’’

It proved a miserable night for Wootton Bassett Town as they were on the end of a 5-0 hiding from Kidlington in Oxfordshire.

Paul Braithwaite’s men were in trouble inside the first ten minutes as the home side’s Ryan Curtin fired home twice.

It got worse for the visitors as first Tom Castle and then Jack Quainton found the net.

Bassett’s misery was completed before the break as Curtin fired home from the penalty spot, although the visitors did at least have some small consolation that the score was not added to in the second half.

It was Bassett’s third consecutive defeat ahead of FA Vase second qualifying round appointment witrh Abingdon Town at the Corinium Stadium on Saturday.
