DAVID Howell is a major doubt for tomorrow’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Swindon star was looking to defend the title he won in Scotland last year.

However, the 39-year-old woke up this morning with a bad neck and his participation at St Andrews is in doubt.

“I have got a bad neck and it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to play,” the Broome Manor pro told the Advertiser.

“I woke up this morning and I can barely move and barring a miraculous recovery I cannot see myself playing tomorrow.”

Howell won the tournament last year following a sudden-death play-off with American Peter Uihlein.
