JAKE Reeves admitted that there was a slightly sombre mood in the Swindon Town dressing room following their 2-2 with Colchester United.

The County Ground side had twice taken the lead against Tony Humes’ side, only for Colchester to peg Town back following some poor defending.

For the second time in the space of a week, Swindon were left scratching their heads that they had managed to score twice on their own pitch and not have three points to show for their efforts.

“We are a bit frustrated today, especially myself,” the 21-year-old midfielder said.

“We felt we should have got a result, but that is football it doesn’t happen all the time.

“To be honest, and this is coming from most of the lads (in the dressing room), Colchester didn’t deserve what they got, they (just) kicked it long.”

Reeves, who made his full debut at home for Swindon on Saturday – after joining the club at the end of August – admitted Swindon were left hurt by conceding so soon after the break. However he believes Town must stick to their keep-ball philosophy, even if the opposition is going to go route one.

“Obviously we got straight back into it with a goal ourselves, but then to concede like we did was criminal, you can’t defend like that.

“(The philosophy) is working, we are creating chances, it is just the defending side that we need to work on.”

The former Tottenham youngster was also full of praise for striker Michael Smith.

The Geordie hitman took his tally to 11 for the campaign with his double against the Essex side.

“He is top drawer,” Reeves said. “Everything about (him), his movement, he is strong, he can do both sides of the game he use his feet and a he can put his body on the line.”
