TRAINER Richard Farnan could not be happier with the form of his two boxers before they step into the ring at the Oasis this evening.

Kelvin Young has not had the best preparation for tonight’s fight with Kiril Psonko, but Farnan believes that he is coming in to form at the perfect time.

The Penhill boxer had his last sparring session last Friday, where he did six rounds with Eamonn O’Kane, who is ranked fourth in the middleweight division.

“Kelvin looked sharp, he looked strong and the boxing brain was there and he looks great,” said Farnan.

“It has been a tough camp. The Tchoffo fight probably took a lot out of him, but he had a lay-off and it has been tough. But Kelvin is the consummate professional and he has ploughed through it.

“If we had it easy all the time it is not going to prepare you for the fight. We want hard sparring sessions, but the main thing was his last sparring session was excellent.”

Farnan is hoping to have Young fighting in a title contest next year, but the 27-year-old must first overcome Psonko, who has bags of experience behind him.

“He is a tough guy – very experienced. He has had 47 fights and has fought some of the cream of British talent and he has done well,” Farnan added.

“The guy hardly ever gets stopped so we know he is tough and he brings it as well and I think he is the perfect fight for Kelvin at this time.

“It will be a fight Kelvin can learn from, sharpen up his skills, and it will prepare him for whatever comes up next.”

Farnan also has southpaw Tariq Quaddus appearing on the ‘By Any Means Necessary’ show tonight and he sees no reason why the 24-year-old should not make light work of opponent Harry Matthews.

Quaddas has been impressing some of the biggest names in British boxing as he prepared for his fight.

The light-heavyweight has been going toe-to-toe with Chris Eubanks Jr and George Groves ahead of tonight’s contest.

“Tariq had a fantastic week last week, a fantastic camp and there was nothing negative about the camp at all,” said Farnan.

“George seemed impressed and, at the end of it, George said he doesn’t need anything else he is ready now.

“We’ve got two guys who are at the top of their game that are requesting Tariq to be there for sparring for their upcoming fights and that is an honour in itself.

“I think Tariq will be too big too strong and I don’t think Harry is going to enjoy feeling what Tariq is going to throw.

“You get out what you put in and Tariq has put in so much work and he is becoming the cream.”
