SWINDON Town have not won at Peterborough since Sam Parkin and Sammy Igoe netted in a 2-0 win on Boxing day almost 10 years ago in 2004.

The majority of the travelling fans tomorrow will undoubtedly be mindful of Town’s long winless run at London Road as they make their way to Cambridgeshire.

It is something like that that irks you and creates an atmosphere as a supporter.

As you head through the gates of an unfruitful ground the feeling of dread can overshadow the usual sense of excitement.

You know full well ‘we never win here’, the ball bounces in favour of the home side, the refs never give anything and the weather’s always miserable.

That is all irrational nonsense, hoodoos do not exist.

A football game between a particular two clubs is an isolated incident only connected when those games fall simultaneously.

History is irrelevant. In an age where the turnover of players is such that half a team could be different from one game to the next why should they care if they didn’t win there in the previous season?

There were many places where they did not win, it makes no difference if that results fits into a pattern or not.

Four of the Town starting XI from the last game at London Road won’t play tomorrow, while Jack Stephens, Jordan Turnbull and Harry Toffolo have never played there.

Why should they be worried? Town have already ended one long winless this season at Leyton Orient, I spoke to Stephens after that game and for him it was just like an away win at any other ground, great but not special.

Since that last win at the Posh Swindon have had 10 managers, so there’s hardly likely to be any hangover for Mark Cooper, at least in regard to being in charge of the away side there.

This should comfort Town fans. Your memories may be long but the 11 men on the pitch who have the most power to make a difference won’t be thinking about it.
