CROSS Street took advantage of leaders Cleeve Tech’s inactivity to cut the gap on the Swindon Sunday League Division Three table-toppers to two points last weekend.

Despite a raft of postponements across the league on Sunday, Cross Street’s clash with FS Swindon survived the weekend’s heavy rainfall and they racked up their second successive victory with a 7-3 triumph at Moredon.

Ash Ali and Matt Bissett both netted braces whilst Graham Prictor, Maher Ali and Kieran Cronin were all also on the scoresheet as Cross Street eventually ran out comfortable winners.

“The pitch obviously wasn’t the greatest but we made do because we wanted to play,” said manager Gurj Khaira.

“We were 2-0 up after the first 25 minutes but they brought it back to 2-2 before half-time.

“We went 3-2 up and then they scored again to make it 3-3 and we thought that was the way it was going to go.

“But thankfully, we managed to score four more times and got the win.

“That’s our second win in a row and hopefully we’re on a bit of a streak now.

“We’ve pretty much played everyone in the division now and I think that it’s a pretty open league – I think there’s a number of teams who could win it.

“We won the Bunny Uzzell Cup last year but unfortunately we’re out of the cups this time, so it’s all about the league.”

Elsewhere in Division Three, Rodbourne Real moved up to third place with a 5-4 win over G Power Solutions, leapfrogging Tap & Barrel, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Tawny Owl.

New Century WMC beat Longs Bar 3-2 in Division One whilst all Division Two matches were rained off.

Marlborough Town Casuals remain top of Division Five after hammering PSV Swindon 9-2 whilst second-placed AFC Freshbrook thumped Bounce Squad 6-2 courtesy of a brace from James Williams and goals from Zach Ockwell, Neil Lee, Tom Ballard and Chris Tewkesbury.
