REDHOUSE ended Division One leaders The Clifton’s unbeaten start to the league season with a 5-4 win on the road.

A sublime lob from player-manager Chris Ullah snatched the points five minutes from time as Redhouse climbed into the top six.

Early strikes from Carl Read and Brendan Shaw looked to have set The Clifton on course for a fifth league win in a row before the visitors mounted a memorable comeback.

Redhouse still found themselves 4-3 in arrears in the closing stages but Robert Dawes levelled the scores and Ullah then completed the unlikely victory with his second of the match late on.

Steven Nicholls and Paul Stevens were also on target for Redhouse, while Harry Leigh and Jimmy Horwood got the hosts’ other two goals.

“We played them two weeks ago and only lost by one goal. We didn’t have a team-talk before the game as we knew what we needed to do,” said boss Ullah.

“We were 2-0, 3-1 and 4-3 down but when Rob scored to make it 4-4 we just went for it.

“The ball came into the box and it seemed to take an age to drop but when it did, I just tried a chip and luckily it went over the keeper.

“Now we are sixth with eight games left and if we win all of them, who knows where we could end up.”

Paul Aust’s last-minute penalty helped Swindon Centurions edge another nine-goal thriller at home to Bassett Bulldogs in the only other game to beat the weather in Division One.

Carl Wheeler’s double put Centurions in control at the break but four Bassett goals without reply turned the game on its head in the second half.

Centurions came back strongly however and strikes from Steve Wilson and Danny Comer restored parity before Aust stole the points from the spot.

Two goals from Aaron Welland helped unbeaten Avtar Construction continue their march towards the Premier Division title with a 4-0 success at Spectrum. Shane Hibbert and Lee Davis also found the net.

Sportz Central moved up to second after bagging a magnificent seven at home to Lower Stratton. Goals from Stratton’s Dean Ramshaw (2), Gavin Kaye and Charlie Pugh kept the game interesting throughout.

Kevin Baker helped himself to a hat-trick as Village Inn thrashed bottom side Swiss Chalet Rangers 6-2. Baker’s heroics were accompanied by efforts from Craig Alexander, Thomas McCulloch and Bryan Halestrap, while Daniel Doole and Kevin Dettmar replied for Rangers.

A solitary second-half strike was enough for DJC Marlborough to claim just a second league win of the campaign as they overcame Shield & Dagger at home.
