PURTON manager Justin Miller insists that he is not getting carried away by his side’s rapid ascent up the Hellenic League Division One West table.

The Red House outfit lie in fourth position ahead of tomorrow’s trip to last season’s champions Tytherington Rocks.

And while Miller is pleased to have points on the board, he knows that the likes of Tuffley Rovers and Hook Norton have several games in hand.

“We have played a few more games than a few of the teams but we have got the points, which in a way is a good thing,” Miller said.

“You only have to see that teams are taking points off each other – New College beat (second-placed) Lydney.”

Miller admits he is not sure what to expect when they make the trip to Tytherington.

The Rocks won Division One West last term but have changed managers twice since then, with Justin Pritchard now in the hot seat.

“Tytherington are having a really strange season,” Miller said.

“We beat them 2-1 earlier in the season. They have been on a really bad run of results after a really good one, so we can’t worry about them we just need to concentrate on what we do.”

Purton will be without Richie Saunders and Ben Carter this weekend but Miller is set to welcome back Marcus Hall and Callum Courtney, while Sam English has joined the club from Wootton Bassett Town.

Meanwhile, New College academy director Ian Howell believes Saturday’s visit of Cirencester Town Development will give his side an indication of where they are this term.

Having beaten second-placed Lydney Town on Wednesday night, the students face the team sitting directly below the side they defeated.

“It was a good performance on Wednesday night but Cirencester will be a truer test for our boys,” Howell said.

“We played them earlier in the season at their place and it was a bad day for us - this time we will be looking to put things right.”
