RYAN Aldridge says that he will look for his side to press Sheffield Steeldogs from the face-off tomorrow night.

Despite claiming a 5-1 success in South Yorkshire last weekend, the Wildcats head coach was less than impressed withhis team’s performance.

“I was a little bit narky after the first and second periods against Sheffield,” Aldridge said. “I just felt that with the line up we had and the match-ups on the ice we had, we should have controlled the game better.

“We had words during the period breaks and I was pleased with the response I got in the third period.

“So on Saturday, we need to come out flying from the start and that is what we will be focusing on training this week.”

With Swindon possessing five imports in their squad – Kenton Smith, Jan Kostal, Henri Sandvik, Jonas Hoog and Tomasz Malasinski – and only allowed to ice four, Aldridge says that while he is preparing an attacking style, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Smith will be left on the sidelines.

“Obviously I need to get the right group for the right games,” Aldridge said. “Last weekend, we were very forward-orientated.

“And that is what we are looking to do again this weekend.

“But that doesn’t mean that I will automatically look to leave out Kenton.

“The players have got to earn their place in the team and fit in to the system that I’m looking to play.”

After Sunday’s English Challenge Cup trip to Invicta Dynamos, Wildcats will then lose Callum Buglass, Ollie Betteridge, Toms Rutkis and Floyd Taylor to the Great Britain Under 20s squad for thei World Championships (Division 2A) in Estonia.

And Aldridge will also see the Okanagan Hockey Academy players – Glen Billing, Michael Stratford and Luc Johnson - whom he uses in his Wildcats squad head over to Tallinn as well.

“I’ve had no luck in finding new players to add depth to the squad,” Aldridge said. “There are no guys out there.

“And when the boys go off with the GB under 20s, I’m going to be short and normall,y I’d bolster the squad with the OHA boys but a few of them are going too so that is going to be an incredibly tough time.”
