SUPERMARINE boss Dave Webb has explained that Corey King’s departure is a result of the club moving in a different direction.

The decision was taken during a meeting after last weekend’s 4-3 defeat to Evesham, in which the 19-year-old got his name on the scoresheet.

King, who was previously on a two year contract with Marlow, signed for Marine in November last year but has only scored three league goals during his short spell at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

The club held a meeting after Evesham’s come-back win with only ten men but Webb does not believe any other players will be leaving the club at this stage.

“It is nothing against Corey, we wish him the best for the future but we didn’t think at this point of the season where we are we didn’t think it was right for us,” said Webb.

“Looking forward to what we want to do for the rest of the season and beyond we’re just going in a different direction.

“At the moment (Corey is the only player we are letting go). We’re just looking at different things.

“There are no other departures at the moment and it is nothing more than we just felt that we were going to go in a different direction.

“We didn’t feel that Corey was going to potentially be part of the forward line in the short term or long term and we didn’t feel it was right to keep him at the club if he wasn’t going to be starting.

“We haven’t made a big thing of it. We have just said that we have made some changes and we haven’t even told the players who, our focus this week has been on Bishops Cleeve.”
