SKS Blyskawica pulled off the shock result of the weekend by inflicting a first defeat of the season on Division One leaders Greyhound.

Tom Kopinski struck twice for Miec Wojewodka’s side as they edged to a narrow 2-1 success in their first game since the end of November.

Following a goalless first half, Kopinski took advantage of a defensive mix-up to put Blyskawica ahead early in the second period.

Greyhound swiftly pulled themselves level but the hosts were not to be denied and Kopinski sealed the win when he prodded home his second from a corner.

Goalscorer Kopinski said: “We’re delighted with that result and we weren’t expecting that close a game.

“We’ve had a lot of games called off because of the weather and it’s been a long break. Everyone just gave their all as they loved being back out there.

“It’s always nice to score and to get both goals in a 2-1 win is even more special.

“We were holding on in the last 15 minutes as they came at us and threw men forward, but we defended really well.

“We’d played them already this season and the first game was quite close again. I think it was 0-0 at half-time but they were the better side in the second half and went on to win 3-1.

“We always felt that if we could hold on against them and maybe nick the first goal we’d be in with a chance and that’s what happened.”

The victory pulls Blyskawica up to third in the table and they are now seven points off top spot with a game in hand.

They are up against second-placed New Century WMC next and Kopinski admits Blyskawica are still the big outsiders in the title race.

“I don’t think we’re going to win the league but I suppose with this result we’ve given ourselves an outside chance,” said Kopinski.

“I think we’ve got four games to go and we’ve got to try to win them all. We’ve still got to play New Century twice and they’re going to be really difficult games. We’ll just take each game as it comes.

“Hopefully we can kick on from this result and maybe push ourselves towards a top-three finish.”
