SWINDON Town midfielder Massimo Luongo has been named as the Asian Cup most valuable player as he helped guide Australia to cup glory this morning.
The socceroos clinched the Asian Cup trophy after an extra-time win over South Korea in Sydney this morning.
Twenty-two year old Luongo had earlier put Ange Postecoglou’s side in front as he picked the ball up 30 yards out, turned, and let fly from outside the box leaving Kim Jin-hyeon with no chance in the South Korea goal.
Australia had thought they had won the game in normal time but with just two minutes to play Son Heung-min stunned the crowd of 77,000 to take the game to extra-time.
The victory was secured though in the 105th minute when substitute James Troisi scored from close range to spark scenes of celebration Down Under at the final whistle.
Luongo, who has already had a bid of almost £2million from a unknown Turkish side turned down, has only increased his value while he has been away on international duty.
The midfielder, who only made his international debut last March, scored twice and set up four goals as his two man of the match performances helped Australia to lift the trophy on home soil.
