DAVE Webb insists Swindon Supermarine will not lose focus ahead of the visit of bottom side Bashley.

Southern League Division One South & West leaders Merthyr Town also visit the Webb’s Wood Stadium on Tuesday night but Webb says that game will not be a distraction.

Marine have triumphed at home to Clevedon United and away at Sholing in their past two fixtures and Webb’s primary concern is making it three wins on the bounce.

“It’s nice to test yourselves against the best teams in the league but there’s a massive game before that,” said Webb.

“We don’t want to underestimate anyone. If you do, you are going to be in trouble.

“Bashley have had a poor season but they are a club with a good non-league tradition.

“Financially, they are finding it very hard to compete in this league at the moment and it doesn’t matter what level of football you play, you are only as good as the players you are able to bring in.

“From our perspective, we said to the players we wanted three positive performances against Clevedon, Sholing and Bashley. We’ve had two so now we want one more.

“We’ve scored nine goals in those two games and the lads deserve credit for the way they have played.”

Marine are sweating over the fitness of centre half Ross Adams after he was forced off with a rib injury in the 5-3 win at Sholing last time out.

Webb was also keen to wish near neighbours Highworth Town well in their FA Vase quarter-final at home to Tadcaster Albion.

He said: “It’s a massive game for them and we wish them all the very best.

“I’m sure there will be a lot of neutrals there to try to see them progress to the semi-finals of a national competition, which would be an incredible achievement.”

Elsewhere, club hero Charlie Griffin is returning to Chippenham Town for a third spell.

The 35-year-old frontman has most recently been playing for Conference North side Gloucester City and could go straight into the squad for the Bluebirds’ Premier Division clash against Hitchin Town.

Griffin’s goalscoring exploits for Town in the late 1990s eventually earned him a £10,000 move to Swindon Town, for whom he went on to make 28 appearances, scoring two goals.

Chippenham boss Mark Collier said: “It’s a good signing because Charlie’s goalscoring record stacks up with the best non-league strikers.

“It's great news. We’ve been short of goals this season, but Charlie has always scored goals wherever he has been and he looks after himself.

“We’ve got 10 games to go and hopefully he will be a big part of them, with a view to being involved for us next season as well.”

n Hellenic League strugglers Shrivenham are in Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup action and host Tytherington Rocks in the second round.

Fellow Premier Division side Wootton Bassett Town are without a fixture.

In Division One West, Purton are at home to Clanfield, while Fairford Town and New College are away at North Leigh United and Shortwood United respectively.
