ALL five Swindon fighters on the bill at the Raged UK MMA show held in the town at the weekend were in knockout form, stopping their opponents inside the opening round.

The event provided a packed MECA crowd of around 1,000 vocal fans with an adrenaline-fuelled night as a total of eight bouts were held.

In the all-English headline contest of the night, Phil Wells defeated Jesse Jarvis via a technical knockout in the pro 77kg class.

Alex Brunnen had earlier triumphed in the pro 73kg category, seeing off the challenge of Welshman Tyler Thomas via a power guillotine.

There was also a stoppage win for one-armed fighter Dave Llewellyn over Terry Webster by TKO in the pro heavyweight class while South African Guy Lewis was victorious in the pro 73kg class, beating Jay Thomas via strikes.

In the amateur ranks, Adam Little, Tom Enstone and Dean Hart all won their contests with stoppages.

Only one fight went the distance and that saw Jake Oliver beat fellow amateur Tommy Taylor via a unanimous decision.

There was one disappointment ofor home fighters as Matthew Thorn was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury 20 minutes before his fight with Craig Rawlins.

Promoter Gary Turland gave thanks to Michael Osborne, Chris Hughes and Dan Hughes, owners of Scorpion and SVT gym, awarding them with an achievement award for their services to the sport.

Turland said: “They have been the backbone of MMA in the town for years and it’s been a great pleasure working with them and their gym. They deserve the recognition they get.”

A second Raged show is already in the pipeline for the summer. Should any fighters or sponsors be keen to get involved they can contact promoter Turland on bigguvnor@gmail.com.
