A SUPERB overall performance by Swindon Dolphin saw them top the final medal table as the Wiltshire County Age Group Championships concluded at the Link Centre at the weekend.

Dolphin amassed 25 gold, 28 silver and 18 bronze, with the competition restricted to 10-13 years competitors, with Harrison Crook (six gold and five silver medals) the top performer.

Adding to the haul were Henry Rideout (five gold, silver, four bronze), Miles Farrington (four gold, three silver, two bronze), Erin Henly (three gold, three silver), Henry Pearce (two gold, five silver, bronze), Charlotte Purvis (two gold, two silver, three bronze), Noah Parker (two gold, silver, bronze), Maya Grounsell (gold, four silver), Megan Adamson (three silver, three bronze), Oscar Pearcey (silver, bronze), Emilie Gulliver (bronze), Hannah Knight (bronze) and Leo Ng (bronze).

Dolphin coach Mark Pearcey said: “Not only were the swimmers extremely competitive and performed brilliantly, but the technical elements of the swims including starts, turns and finishes raises the bar for many of the other swimmers in the club.”

At the Wiltshire County Distance Freestyle and Youth Championships, Dolphin reaffirmed their dominance with a convincing performance.

Prior to the main block of sprint and middle distance events at the Link Centre, the Championships got off the ground with the distance freestyle events at Salisbury.

In the boys’ 1,500m, Fraser Durston just touched out James Watson to take the senior championship. Third and fourth were teammates Joshua Fox and Miles Farrington, with the three boys also filling the top three spots in the junior championships.

Jake Lewis was seventh in the senior placings and all five boys took the top award in their respective age groups. Cathy Naus finished fourth in the girls’ junior 800m championship and sixth in the senior.

At the Link Centre, 15 senior championships, nine junior titles, five relay golds and 58 age group golds ensured Dolphin top spot on the overall medal table again Watson clinched six junior championships, but could not quite match the brilliance of Bradford on Avon’s national champion Jordan Ludlam who collected nine junior top places.

Ludlam’s teammate Georgia Keen matched Watson’s success with six titles. Other Dolphin juniors who picked up a top award were Naus, Olivia Flack and Millie Jeans.

In the senior championships, the biggest number of individual wins went to the prolific Daniella Whiting, of Trowbridge, with five but Dolphin amassed 15 titles overall.

Durston, Lauren Matthews and Sean Purvis each won three apiece, Matthew Sambrook and James Clark two each and individual wins went to Jon Audis and Charlotte Gardo.

A further 10 won age group honours - Amber Davies, Annie Ward, Douglas Alexander, Ella Wardale, Ellen Hicken, Hannah Brown, Jack Plumb, Joshua Fox, Sam Elliott and Stuart Gibbs.

Dolphin won three junior gold, junior silver and junior bronze in the 4x50m relay events and, in the open events, won two gold and three bronze, clinching the team trophy. James Clark collected the top male swim award for his 51.95 seconds effort in the 100m freestyle.
