RODBOURNE Real ensured champions-elect AFC Tap & Barrel will have to win their final game of the season this weekend to clinch the Division Three title.

Tap’s 6-1 success at home to Tawny Owl has put them on the brink of glory and they will clinch the crown by beating G Power Solutions.

But Rodbourne, who are seven points adrift with two games in hand, have kept them honest with a 3-1 win over Eldene and will be ready to pounce should Tap slip up.

Rodbourne’s own title challenge was dented by defeat to G Power last weekend and boss James Wilcox hopes they can now do his team a favour by beating Tap.

“We probably saw our title ambitions bashed last week but the lads responded really well to make sure they got the win,” said Wilcox, whose team travel to Cross Street this weekend.

“We know if Tap win this weekend they’ve won it, but if they lose to G Power, we will win it if we win the rest of our games.

“This team has been together for eight years. We’ve had promotion after promotion in that time but this is the first year we thought we could challenge for the title.

“It’s a shame that we’ve come up short but you have to say fair play to Tap, they deserve to be where they are.

“It’s not in our hands but we know if we win all our games we’ll finish second at least, and that is still a tremendous achievement for Rodbourne Real.”

Andy Ponting’s first-half double put Real in control but bottom side Eldene hit back after the restart and reduced the arrears.

There were then a few scares for the home side but Jonathan Reeves eased their nerves with a penalty to seal the win.

In Division One, SKS Blyskawica triumphed 3-2 at home to Inter Sandgate, and FC Walcot won 4-1 on their trip to AFC Gas.

There was just one game in Division Two, with third-placed KC Globe boosting their title chances with a ninth straight win as they beat Wanborough 3-2.

Chiseldon closed the gap on Division Four leaders DPR with a 3-2 success at AFC Swindon United. Bottom side Smart Movers were thrashed 6-0 by visiting Stratton Saints, Penhill Moonrakers won 5-2 at DH Fitness and Old Town United bagged a 2-0 success at PSG Amateurs.

Bounce Squad squashed Nationwide 8-1 in Division Five, while PSV Swindon eased to a 6-0 drubbing of Rug Shack. The best game of the day was at Gorsehill Borough as they shared a 4-4 draw with AFC Greendown.

Second-placed Willowgreen Hotspur saw their Division Six title chances hit by a 4-0 loss at home to Westbrook, who are now just a point behind in third.

Croft Junior won 4-1 at Save on Tyres Athletic, Swindon Athletic beat AFC Royal 4-3 and there was a 5-2 success for Rosier Rovers at Northern Lights.
