SWINDON men’s first XI finished the season with a comfortable 4-2 win over mid-table Lydney to claim a third-placed finish in Conference North.

The first half played out very much as an end of season affair, with Swindon largely on top of their hosts.

The Severnsiders dropped down to 10 men as a result of injury, however, the visitors struggled to take advantage. Gilt-edged chances for Henry Cheney and Pete Gilbert were missed and the first half finished 0-0.

Swindon started the second half well, creating opportunities before taking the lead when James Lewis, who is now leaving the club, found captain Luke Cejer at the top of the circle.

Cejer then passed to Cheney, who drew out the keeper before playing in Chris Parsons to net.

A second goal quickly followed, with more great play down the right. Right-back Alex Hynes played in Lewis, who in turn found Cheney and he picked out Thomas Hunt to score his second of the season.

Lydney managed to pinch a goal back with a bundled finish, however Swindon came back strong again, Steve Dixon skipping beyond the keeper to get on to a great pass from Hunt to restore the two goal lead.

The best goal of the game was scored by the visiting skipper with 10 minutes to go. Lewis stole the the ball with a well-timed reverse stick challenge before playing in Cejer with his back to goal.

The captain took one touch to move the ball out of his feet before crashing it into the top corner on the reverse.

Despite a late goal from former Swindon player Jake Biddle, the result was never in doubt and Swindon finished with nine wins in 10 since Christmas.

The team will be looking to carry their 2015 form into the 15/16 season and seek promotion back to the Championship, reasserting themselves as the best side in Wiltshire.
