DAVID Howell tumbled down the leaderboard at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco this afternoon with an error strewn five-over-par round of 77.

The Broome Manor pro had headed into the weekend at Golf du Palais Royal in good shape after opening with back-to-back 70s.

However, his chances of pulling himself into contention were gone early in the third round as Howell double bogeyed the first hole and dropped another shot at the second.

Two more shots went as the Swindon ace reached the turn before he finally had something to cheer after posting his first birdie of the day at the tenth.

That shot was soon dropped with another bogey at the 12th and although he was able to birdie 17, Howell’s round was summed up with a bogey at the last.

Howell’s round of 77 drops him to one over par for the tournament and a tie for 55th place.

He is now eight shots behind the leading trio of Scotsmen Richie Ramsay and Andrew McArthur and France’s Romain Wattel.
