JOHN Swift believes a win over MK Dons this weekend could give the team the confidence they need to get over the promotion finish line.

Despite impressing on international duty with the England Under 20s, where he netted a penalty in the shoot-out win over Mexico before scoring one and assisting the other in the 2-1 victory over the USA, Swift admitted the attention of Town’s quartet of Young Lions was always on this Saturday’s clash.

Town sit a place and a point ahead of Karl Robinson’s Dons, with a game in hand, and know a win is not only important to put some distance between the two sides but to also keep up the pressure on second-placed Preston.

Despite Swindon having two weeks off, Preston were unable to take advantage and only picked up two points over the two weekends.

This Saturday’s game is live on Sky but that does not faze Swift and he hopes the team can show the rest of the division what they are capable of with the TV cameras watching.

“I think that’s in the back of our minds every game we play, to prepare for the next game when we get back,” he said. “Obviously it’s on Sky as well so it’s a massive game.

“We’ve got nine games left, I think if we win that game it will push us on and give us a lot more confidence for the games after.

“We don’t think about the cameras, we think about the league, we think about how we want to play, but obviously the cameras are there and we know that.

“We have to think about winning the game first of all and think about ourselves after.

“It’s definitely important to have the fans onside.

“I think we play a bit of risky football sometimes and it might get on their nerves, but we’ve got to keep playing how we’ve been playing.

“We’ve had three wins in a row now and I think we’ve played great football to get the three wins and we’ve just got to keep playing.”
