KELVIN Young says that he can take very little from the first stoppage win of his career.

The Penhill pugilist’s British Masters Bronze super-middleweight contest with Joe Walsh was ended after just one minute 36 seconds.

The 28-year-old had his Croydon opponent on the canvas with a solid right to the body but as Walsh attempted to get back to his feet he twisted his back and went down again and referee Shaun Messer waved the contest off.

And while that takes Young’s professional to 17 wins, one inside the distance, and four defeats and one draw, he knows that he will get a much harder contest in June when he faces Kevin Greenwood at the York Hall Bethnal Green in a Southern Area title eliminator.

Walsh came out fast from the opening bell at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester throwing a big right over Young’s jab scuffing the top of his head.

But Young then look to stay out of range before the right hook to the body sent Walsh crumbling to the canvas.

“As it is my first stoppage win I’ll take that with both hands,” Young told the Advertiser. “But there is not a lot I can take from that.

“I’ve got a Southern Area title eliminator coming up and I wanted the rounds.”
