SKIPPER Troy Batchelor is set to be missing in action for the Swindon Robins again this week after aggravating his injuries in the farcical Grand Prix Series opener on Saturday.

Batchelor failed to register a point at the event in Warsaw as he twice came off his bike. He was amongst a number of fallers at the Stadion Narodowy, which led to the meeting being abandoned after 12 heats amid fears for the riders’ safety.

The Australian has not ridden for the Robins since suffering shoulder and rib injuries in their first Elite League meeting of the season against Poole Pirates at the Abbey Stadium on Easter Monday and is unlikely to return in the home and away clashes against King’s Lynn this week.

Robins team manager Alun Rossiter says Batchelor will not be risked unless he is fully fit.

“He’s told me he’s going to see how he feels but to get someone on standby for this week ready,” said Rossiter.

“If he is not right I don’t want him to ride, it’s not good for him and it’s not good for the team “If he rode at not 100 per cent and it didn’t go our way then people would get onto him and us, and that’s not fair.

“We need a fully-fit Troy Batchelor. I’ve told him that he needs to get himself right first, that’s the most important thing.”

Batchelor’s likely absence adds to Swindon’s ongoing injury problems as number one Adrian Miedzinski is also sidelined.

Former Robin Peter Kildemand had been drafted in as a replacement but he has since suffered a knee injury.

Hans Andersen is set to deputise in Thursday’s home meeting with King’s Lynn but the Robins are still on the lookout for other guests.
