JORDAN Turnbull was relieved to break his duck in a Swindon Town shirt as he was keen to make amends for his earlier misdemeanour.

Turnbull leapt highest to meet Ben Gladwin’s free-kick with ten minutes to go to pull Town back from behind for a second time against Walsall.

The goal clearly meant a lot to the young defender but not simply because it was his first goal in professional football, but also because his mistake had led to the Saddlers’ third goal.

"It is excellent to get my first senior goal. I think I needed it,” he said as he also jumped to the defence of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who also made a mistake for Walsall’s opening goal.

"I hold my hands up for the third goal. It was a poor decision for me. I maybe should have kicked it long, rather than trying to over play.

"It was definitely the perfect time for me to get my goal and overall I thought the second half was much better than the first-half performance.

"I think that we spoke at half-time about increasing the intensity and moving the ball forward a lot quicker.

"Sometimes it did turn into a long ball forward but I think we increased the intensity and increased our work rate and got the goals we deserved.

"First of all, I think Wes has been outstanding all season.

"Maybe it was a little mistake from Wes but I think that he made some great saves during the game, as well as all season, so no one is going to point the finger at Wes for that."

Turnbull has now turned his attentions to Saturday’s match with Preston at Deepdale and is keen to send Simon Grayson’s side a strong message ahead of the play-offs.

“We know it is going to be a really tough game and we are going into that game to win it,” he added.

“I think we need to go into the play-offs with some momentum and win some games before that, so we are definitely going to go and try and win the game.

“It is going to be great preparation because they are a great team, so obviously we will go there and try to score some goals and get into winning ways.

“When we played them earlier in the season we did really well with a 1-0 win at home.

“We would like to do that again and go there and beat them and obviously if we do come up against them in the play-offs we will have that psychological edge.”
