PADDY Fitzpatrick insists that he would look to get Luke Watkins and Garvey Kelly fights in America should George Groves have to cross the pond to fight for the WBC super-middleweight title.

Anthony Dirrell defends his crown against Badou Jack tonight in Chicago with the winner having 10 days to try and find an agreement with mandatory challenger Groves before the contest goes to purse bids.

And with American Dirrell backed music and boxing mogul Al Haymon, the Fitzpatrick-trained Londoner, who is promoted by the Sauerlands, may have to travel in his third bid to become world champion.

If that happens, the Ferndale Road-based trainer told the Advertiser says that his Swindon fighters, Kelly and Watkins - who are also managed by Groves - will also make the trip for the fight which would have to happen before the end of July.

"I would love to get the guys out there and get them something," said Fitzpatrick, who headed out to Northern Ireland on Thursday with Kelly, Watkins and Eamonn O'Kane for their fights at the Lavey Centre on Saturday May 2.

"Garv has fought in Denmark, Duke has fought in Germany and now they are both going to fight in Ireland, so most definitely (I'd take them over).

"Even if it isn’t on the undercard of that show, I would probably bring them out and get them on a show a couple of days before or a couple of days after, if we are going out there they are coming out with us."

Fitzpatrick, who is also planning to stage a show at the Oasis Leisure Centre in June, says that Groves has been looking superb in the gym and is confident that the Londoner came become a world champion at the third attempt - even if they have to cross stateside.

"I have the confidence in George, the way he has developed and the way that he has trained," the trainer said.

"He is going to be devastating against Dirrell, I’ve got nothing against that in my mind and I don’t think that George has either - if we have got to go to America that is not a thing."
