SWINDON Robins gave their Elite League campaign a much-needed kick-start with an impressive success over King’s Lynn Stars this evening.

The 55-37 victory at the Abbey Stadium was just the Robins’ second from their opening five meetings of the season and avenged their 53-40 defeat in the reverse fixture away in Norfolk 24 hours earlier.

Guest number one Hans Andersen led the charge with three wins and two seconds on the night, while stand-in skipper Nick Morris also excelled with two victories, a haul matched by both Kyle Howarth and Grezgorz Zengota.

It was Even Stevens in the first three heats, with the Robins thankful for a sensational ride from guest reserve Kyle Newman in the second race as he pulled off a stunning victory after sweeping around the outside in turn one.

With the scores tied at 9-9, Swindon gradually began to turn the screw and clocked up three maximums in the next four heats – a series from which the Stars never recovered.

New Polish recruit Grzegorz Zengota had his best night since coming back to the Robins this term and led home a cracking one-two in heat four, backed-up by another sublime ride from Newman.

A tied heat followed, with Kyle Howarth claiming the victory for Swindon, and Zengota then got a second straight heat win, this time aided by Australian captain for the night Morris.

The Robins’ top two guests, Andersen and Chris Harris, then turned in a priceless maximum for their temporary employers as the advantage began to build.

However, Stars hit back as the meeting approached the halfway mark as Robert Lambert and Lewis Kerr pulled off a one-two to cut the deficit.

Howarth then raced to his second win of the night in the next before Morris bagged a superb win to nullify a tactical ride from King’s Lynn number one Niels-Kristian Iversen in the 10th as the Robins held a 10-point advantage.

The next two heats also finished tied, with first Andersen and Howarth and then Newman and Lewis Rose doing excellent work to counter Stars victories.

The Robins’ hefty advantage meant they could seal overall victory early and Andersen duly obliged with two heats to spare, romping to an impressive tapes-to-flag triumph.

Morris shone in the penultimate heat with his second straight win, and then played his part in a perfect finish to the night as he followed Andersen home for Swindon’s fourth maximum in the final heat to cap an excellent evening’s work for the Robins.
