WALCOT ABC duo Luke Scott Browne and Fred Bond both failed to secure a victory at the Trowbridge ABC show last Friday.

Scott, aged 13, faced Billy Saunders from Ferndown ABC in Dorset, who made the faster start, scoring with left jabs and straight rights.

The Walcot boxer bravely fired back and manfully kept to his task throughout the contest, but Saunders was awarded a unanimous points victory by the ringside judges.

Bond, 11, faced a tough task as he was booked to take on Dillan Stonehouse from the host club.

The bout was closely fought throughout, but it was Stonehouse who had his arm raised by the referee after three entertaining rounds.

  • n CIRENCESTER ABC were also in action last week as they travelled to Abergaveney to a show hosted by Sirulian ABC.

Raymond Jones at 44kg, who took on Declan Tomsett from Bargoed ABC in an all-action schoolboy bout.

Jones took the fight to the Welsh boxer in the first round, landing double jabs and right-hand punches and mixing up head and body shots, with Tomsett hanging on in a bid to stay the distance.

Jones, however, was in a relentless attacking mode throughout the three rounds and eventually won on a unanimous points decision.

Next up for the club was Tommy Varey against Cardigan ABC’s Tomas Morris at 51kg.

Varey quickly put the recent disappointment of going out of the National Schoolboy quarter-finals behind him to produce another explosive contest.

The Ciren youngster dictated the pace from the off, catching Morris with two and three-punch combinations, pushing the Welsh boxer onto the back foot.

In the closing stages, Varey caught Morris with a left hook to underline his dominance and triumph on a unanimous points decision.

Three Cirencester fighters will travel to Wales again on Friday, with two more in the Gold Cup in Bristol over the weekend.

ABA coach Simon Knowles said: “We had two brilliant performances and it was a great night for Cirencester ABC.”
