PURTON will hope to dust themselves off from last week’s 149-run defeat to Marlborough and get their season back on track against Devizes.

Despite being impressed with his sides bowling, Aaron Lee has admitted that the batting and fielding disciplines of his side have let them down so far.

Purton have now lost two of their opening four fixtures in the Wiltshire Division but know a win on Saturday will lift them above their opponents.

“We are bowling well week-on-week, but the other two disciplines are letting us down and when that happens you aren’t going to win too many games of cricket,” said Lee.

“We’ve got a couple more favourable fixtures coming up now and we’ve got to look to make the most of it.

“Winsley, Westbury and Marlborough was a tough run of games to have first up and we knew we’d be up against it in all those.

“Hopefully we can look to put a bit of form together and get some confidence in the camp. Devizes are a good side, but we have got to look to go down there and get a win.

“They had a good win against Winsley last time and are a team more than capable of causing an upset so we will have to be on our game.”

Meanwhile Marlborough will be looking to extend their current winning run to four games this Saturday when they host Calne.

They currently sit in second place, 10 points behind leaders Trowbridge.

George Fox has been leading the bowling attack with 10 wickets so far this season and Marlborough coach Brad Frost believes Fox is bowling at the top of his game.

“George has been unplayable at times this year and his success has encouraged the rest of the bowling unit to work well as a team,” he said.

“The fact that Ben Head has only bowled six overs in the last three games also says how well we have bowled with pace at the top of the innings.

“Ben has been the main stay of the bowling for many a year at Marlborough and the fact that we have him in reserve at this point should worry a lot of teams.”
