SWINDON Storm head coach Steve Bennett knows Torbay Trojans will be confident of success when they come to Wiltshire on Sunday, but believes his inexperienced side will still put on a good show.

The Supermarine-based team have been hit by injuries in recent weeks, particularly on defence as they have been robbed of a strong safety and starting linebackers, meaning a number of the club’s rookie players have been thrown into action earlier than expected.

Storm beat the Trojans 59-22 when they went to Devon in April, but Bennett isn’t expecting a similar story when his side take to the field in their penultimate home game of the season.

“In the first couple of games this season we’ve taken some knocks to some key players and the 2015 intake of rookies have been upgraded to be the starting offence and defence a little quicker than we had anticipated,” he said.

“They’re still finding their way in the sport, so we’ve had a tough time of things.

“Last time we played Torbay we got a good win. We’ve reinvented ourselves somewhat in the way we run and pass the ball, and we’ll be fielding some new faces from our 2015 rookies and that will mean it’s a bit of a testing ground for us really.

“Torbay will feel they have an opportunity to get one over on us and this will be their one chance of the season to put one in the win column. We need to be ready and it’s going to be a tough game, but I know our players will give everything.”

Sunday’s game is being played at Supermarine Sports Club.
