SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb is happy with how his pre-season squad is shaping up ahead of their opening pre-season friendly with Swindon Town this evening.

Having already brought in former Forest Green Rovers and Oxford City goalkeeper Matt Bulman back to the club, whilst also snapping up winger Jacob Davidge and midfielder Gianluca Michenzi and defender Ryan Elliott, Webb is looking to get his transfer business done early.

The Webb’s Wood boss has also been in talks with Luke Matthews and Connor Waldon, who was released by Town this summer, and is currently on trial with National League South side Oxford City, but will use tonight’s game with League One side Swindon to assess what he already has.

“I only want to really look at the players who have signed,” said Webb. “We have eight friendlies, so there will be plenty of opportunities to have a look at players.

“I’ve got one trialist who we will use, a lad called Oli Bailey.

“He was at Southampton and lives in the Winchester area, so we are going to have a look at him.

“It will give him an opportunity to have some minutes and the new signings we have brought in will play a part, plus the existing players from last year.

“We have made four signings, but hopefully we will be able to make a couple more over the coming weeks.

“We are not looking in too bad shape and we are getting players back fit. We have still got three players injured, who are carrying injuries from last season, who won’t be involved.

“If we can get those players fit, plus what we have already got at the club, if we can add one or two more then we will be looking in good shape.

“There are some good young players that we have been trying to attract but haven’t been able to get over the line as yet, but we are still hopeful because there is still a lot of pre-season to go.”

Supermarine’s approach is expected to be in stark contrast to their visitors this evening, with Mark Cooper expecting to field a host of trialists as he starts to re-build the side that was broken up following Town’s defeat to Preston in the play-off final.

Webb is grateful of the opportunity to play Swindon, in what has become a regular curtain-raiser, and hopes the relationship continues to bear fruit for the Southern League club.

“We have been so fortunate with that relationship with Swindon during my time here,” added Webb. “It is good that we can get a few players on loan, it gives us a massive boost. Anything we can do to help them we will.”

Kick-off is at 7.30pm at the Webb’s Wood Stadium. Entry is £5, with children under 12 going free, when accompanied by an adult.
