JAMIE Cox is predicting a short night’s work when he faces Blas Miguel Martinez for the vacant WBO European super-middleweight crown on Friday night.

The Swindon southpaw is confident that the Swiss-born Spaniard won’t hear the final bell when they collide at Wembley Arena.

The 28-year-old returned to the ring in February after an absence of 20 months and required just two-and-a-half minutes to blast away Alistair Warren.

As the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist looks to secure himself a top 15 world ranking with the WBO, Cox is predicting repeat performance from his last outing.

“We are going out there to do a job, we are going to do what we did the last time and get the knockout,” said Cox, who is back under the promotional arm of Frank Warren.

“I’m not saying when I’ll get it, but I will get the knockout.

“I’m in this game, not just to win, but to look exciting. I want to make it exciting for my fans, my friends, my team – everyone.

“With my style I’m going to bring it and hopefully make it a spectacular show on Friday night.

“It is not just about the win; it is how you win that matters. People like excitement.

Although the WBO European title itself means little, the opportunities which arise for the victor can be huge.

Terry Flanagan, after winning the lightweight version of the title, went on to win the WBO world crown in his next fight.

The previous holder of the belt Cox is contesting, Frank Buglioni, was meant to be facing WBA world champion Fedor Chudinov on Friday before the Russian was forced to withdraw through injury, with the Swindonian potentially facing the winner.

But with that fight off, the former Walcot amateur admits he would love to get a crack at reigning WBO champion Arthur Abraham after he successfully defended his title last weekend.

“I’d love a fight with Arthur Abraham,” the unbeaten former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion said.

“He is a strong champion, he has been a great champion and it would be an honour to share the ring with him, it would be a dream.

“I’m concentrating on this fight first, but they are the type of fights which could happen after this.”
