SWINDON Robins skipper Troy Batchelor believes his team are getting their season on track despite still having a depleted squad.

The Aussie can count on one hand the number of times he has skippered a full-strength team this season.

Despite that, Swindon still find themselves in the play-off picture and the 27-year-old has said that the morale in the pits has never wavered as a result of their injury woes.

“The team spirit has been good all year but we just haven’t had a team,” he told the Advertiser after a battling performance to earn himself a paid 10 paid points against Wolverhampton Wolves on Monday night, which came on a track he does not look on kindly.

“There have been too many riders missing and it is still pretty much the story now with Lewis (Rose) out and Nick (Morris) out. Hopefully those guys are back soon because we need them.

“I had a couple of good races (on Monday) and passed PK from the back, which doesn’t happen very often. He is pretty good around here.

“I had a couple of ok races but I hate (the Monmore Green) track.

“It is a good track, but me personally, I never have fun there, but I did my job and scored some points.”

Swindon head to Poole Pirates tomorrow evening and Batchelor thinks that fellow countryman Darcy Ward could hold the key to success as he returns to Wimborne Road for the first time with his new side.

“We are at their track now and we are in their territory and they go well there,” he added.

“I keep an eye on the scores there and they have a few guys who can pedal around that track, so we are going to have to be smart and make some good corners and some good starts and try and get out in front.

“We’ve got Darcy (Ward) and he flies down there and I used to ride there, and Charles (Wright) is going pretty well at the moment and I think can take on any reserve.

“We have a good chance of doing something there, but I think it is going to be tough.”
