STRATTON Churchway and Wootton Bassett won titles at the annual Wiltshire Women’s finals day at Devizes last Saturday.

Churchway won the triples crown 15-12 but missed out in the ladies pairs championship, as did Purton in the ladies singles final, while Bassett’s Lucy Smith took the honours in the junior singles (U25s) in her family battle against her younger sister Katy.

The Churchway trio of Lil Dalrymple, Wendy Anderson and skip Janet Willis edged out Box 15-12 after 18 ends, the second time in three seasons that Churchway had won the triples crown. Both Anderson and Willis featured in the 2013 triumph.

Willis and partner Jacki Pearce failed to defend their pairs title in the morning, going down 25-14 to Wilton.

Holder Lucy Smith maintained her outdoor superiority over younger sister Katy in the U25 junior singles final.

Lucy, 20, trailed Katy, 18, early on, but powered away to win 23-8 on the 20th end, her fourth U25 win in the last five county junior singles finals as she completed a straight hat-trick of victories.

Purton’s Chris Mitchell, appearing in her first singles final, lost out 21-7 to fellow county player Jean Collier (Box).

Collier returned to the green shortly afterwards to defeat holder and clubmate Sue Cooke 16-11 in the two-wood singles final.

Chippenham Town lifted the Wiltshire ladies county fours title for the first time in the club’s history with a last-gasp 22-21 win over Alderbury.
