ALL-ROUNDER Tom Bowler turned in a stellar display as Purton made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Bowler claimed a five-wicket haul and then followed that up with a half-century to lead Purton to a five-wicket victory at home to Devizes.

The triumph comes hot on the heels of their two-wicket success away at Marlborough seven days earlier and Aaron Lee’s men are now up to sixth in the table.

Bowler said: “I have come back into a bit of form, so it’s certainly good to be playing a role for the team.

“I had a bit of a lean spell recently but it was a good day at the office on Saturday and I am pretty pleased with how I played.

“It was a good day for all of us and it’s the first time this season that we have won two games on the spin, so we were pretty happy with how we got on.”

Devizes started positively on Saturday and when they reached 68-1 there had been little sign of what was to follow.

However, Bowler then turned in an inspired spell to take 5-16 in less than six overs to skittle Devizes all out for 127, with the final nine wickets going down for just 59 runs.

There were plenty of nervy moments in the Purton reply, as Ben McGowen claimed 3-36 to keep them on their toes, but Bowler ensured there was enough resistance.

He had got the home side within sight of victory when he finally fell for a fine 50 and it was left to Tom Whittaker (22*) and Neil Little to get them over the line in the 31st over.

Bowler added: “Bowling has been our strength this season so that was our plan going in. We wanted to try to get them out for as little as possible and then try to chase that down and that’s what we were able to do.

“When it came to us batting we probably lost a few more wickets than what we would have liked to but they bowled quite well.

“Their opening bowler came back into the attack and was able to cause us a few problems but the match was done with how we did in the first innings.”
