FRASER Digby does not want to rush with the development of Swindon Town’s new training ground after the club had an offer accepted on site within the borough.

Chairman Lee Power revealed on a radio phone-in with BBC Wiltshire that an offer has been accepted on a new training facility for the club.

Former Town goalkeeper Digby has led the project to find a new training facility since it became apparent the PGL facilities at Liddington were no longer usable.

Town signed a three-year agreement to train temporarily at Beversbrook in Calne back in June.

However work has continued to go on behind the scenes to find Swindon a more permanent home and it appears a deal has been struck to train in Swindon, with just the paperwork to be finalised.

Digby is optimistic on expedited timescale for the new facility, but warned the development is one that should be done carefully in order to get the right result.

“I think the first phase of it could not be a million miles away,” said the former stopper. “It depends on how we want to do it, it’s very early days.

“I’m delighted we’ve got the site, but it’s still got all the paperwork and stuff to go through.

“We can’t discuss where it is yet until everything is signed and sealed, that could take several months to go through.

“It’s then getting the pitches as ready as quickly as possible “If we can get them ready for next season then fantastic.

“But we’ve got an agreement in Calne with Beversbrook and they’ve got some fantastic pitches there and why would we want to go as we’ve got time on our hands now to develop this and get the pitches to the standard we need.

“The new site a great opportunity, but we’ve got to do it right and I know Lee (Power) would do the same. We’d rather take the time to do it and get it done to level we need it done to before we move in.”
