RYAN Martin says that he has no concerns over his old injuries as he looks to step back into the ring next month.

The 21-year-old turned professional in March 2014, however, hand problems and a shoulder injury has restricted the talented youngster to just four fights – all of which he has won.

As the former Walcot and England amateur prepares to do battle on Keith Mayo’s Gloucester show on Saturday, September 12, he says that his old problems are at the back of his mind.

“Once the shoulder was better I was back hitting hard,” Martin said. “I try not to let it bother me.

“I don’t hold back in training. I push it to the back of my mind and get on with my work.

“If it comes up again then that is something that I’ll deal with.”

The injury to his shoulder in the summer meant that Martin missed the opportunity to be the headline act on a show.

While that bill was eventually cancelled, the welterweight prospect was disappointed to miss out.

“It was gutting,” he said. “That was a little dream come true – headlining a bill - especially so early in my career.

“But I’m good now. I just seem to get the worst luck in the world.

“Hopefully I’m getting them (the injuries) out of the way nice and early.”

Martin, like stablemate Danny Bharj, is being trained by Richard Farnan for this bout and says that there has been no slacking off.

“We are training hard - extra hard sessions in the morning, no more light running – it is proper strength work. Rich is killing us, but it will all pay off on September 12,” added Martin.

“(Working with Farnan is) really good. He knows his stuff and he just brings other aspects to the table that I felt that I might have been missing from my game.

“There has been a lot of strength work, I have always been a natural puncher; been able to hit hard.

“But I want to stand with these blokes and fight for the centre of the ring and have that strength and manpower and that is what hopefully I’ll have now.”

Tickets for the show in Gloucester are priced £35 unreserved or £60 ringside. For more information visit www.kmpromotions.co.uk
