HIGHWORTH Town chairman Rohan Haines continued his 50th birthday celebrations by watching his side maintain their 100 per cent Hellenic League Premier Division record with a 2-0 win at Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

The Elms supremo was in buoyant Bank Holiday Monday mood as the Worthians bounced back from their FA Cup exit to Farnham Town and returned to the summit of the Premier Division.

The win over Paul Braithwaite’s men, coupled with Flackwell Heath’s 3-2 defeat to third-placed Thatcham Town, means that Highworth lead the way by superior goal difference.

“The celebrations keep on going,” said Haines, who had his party on the Saturday night. “It was a great performance.

“The lads have been brilliant this year. It went a little flat after the FA Vase semi-final (last season) but the response this season has been great.

“It was 2-0 against Bassett but I felt it could have been quite easily been four or five.

“We have now won five out of five in the league and have only conceded one – as a chairman you can’t ask for more.”

Highworth took the lead at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground on 26 minutes when TJ Bohane lofted the ball over Bassett stopper Lukr Kuczynski.

The Worthians skipper grabbed his and his team’s second shortly after the interval.

Highworth are hopeful that they can bring in support for their hotshot striker “That is eight for TJ now,” Haines added. “But Fish (manager John Fisher) is talking to a Southern League striker right now.

“He came and watched the game on Saturday and Fish was talking to him on Monday following the match.

“All I can say at the moment is that we are hopeful of getting deal done.”
