NATHAN Byrne says he will ‘always have a place in his heart’ for Swindon Town after completing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers this morning.

The 23-year-old wide man put pen to paper on a three-year deal, with a further year's option for the club.

A fee has not been disclosed, but it is thought to be close to the seven-figure mark.

Byrne has said that he is ‘over the moon’ with the move and believes it will give him the platform to prove himself.

“For one it is a step up from the Championship and I feel it is my time to prove myself at the higher level,” he told the Wolves website.

“And secondly, I have known from when I was young how big a club Wolves is.

“I am buzzing to be at such a big club with great ambitions which want to push on.

“The team is young and there is a real belief here and I am delighted to be involved.

“There were a lot of rumours over the summer but I kept my head down and let my agent deal with that.

“I heard that there were a lot of clubs interested but I stayed focused on the job I had at Swindon.

“Then my agent phoned me the other day to say Wolves were interested and as soon as I heard that I really wanted to go for it.

“Thankfully we’ve got it all done and now I’m here.”

Byrne, who opened this campaign with a hat-trick against Bradford City, has thanked Swindon for his time with the club and said that he always had ambitions to play at a higher level when he joined Swindon from Tottenham Hotspur.

“I wish them (Swindon) all the best for the future,” he added.

“That hat-trick probably put a bit more pressure on me but that is what I want as a footballer.

“It was always my aim to try and play in the Premier League one day.

“That was my aim when I signed for Swindon and is still my aim today.

“My progression has been good over the last two years and being with Swindon has really helped my push on.

“I know Wolves – I have seen the set-up at the training ground and the stadium and it is Premier League standard.

“I think their goal is the same as mine and that is what we will be trying to achieve.”
