FAIRFORD Town secured a place in the first round proper with a 4-2 victory over Badshot Lea on Saturday.

Gareth Davies side had to work for it though, as their Combined Counties visitors threatened to take the game to extra time.

Lewis Petrie fired Fairford ahead on 17 minutes from the spot before the returning Jason Milhench doubled the lead before the break.

Petrie again struck from the spot in the second half After the interval Petrie added a third, again from the penalty spot before Lukas Burt reduced arrears.

Petrie had a further penalty saved and the nerves started jangling 15 minutes before half time as Darren Blake made it 3-2.

Fairford keeper Ben Mitchell proved the hero, palming away a Badshot spot-kick in the dying moments before substitute Lee Smith secured Fairford's passage to the next round.
