TOWN Ladies boss Steve Robertson was delighted with his side’s statement 5-0 win over the previously unbeaten Larkhall Athletic in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

Although the result has no impact on the standings of Robertson’s main focus, South West Division One, it does reassert Town’s pre-eminence in the division.

Larkhall had been successful in their previous visit to Wiltshire, knocking seven past Swindon Spitfires just last week.

This time around they were to find a sterner test. Beth Westlake gave Town the lead just after the half hour with a close range finish. With Abby Picton bagging a brace before the break, Town were well on top.

At the half Robertson revealed he did not have to say much to his side, so impressed was he with their performance.

After the turnaround Meg Attenborough got a couple of goals of her own to add an exclamation point to victory for the Ladies boss.

“I spoke a few weeks ago about how we had a few more gears to give and now we’ve shown we’ve got those gears,” Robertson told the Advertiser.

“Every single player performed to the best of their abilities.

“We came flying out in the first half, we put them under lots of pressure. When you work your socks off and you have the girls with the talents we do the score will turn up.

“I sort of wished it was a league game because Larkhall are unbeaten in the league. All we have to do is repeat that feat when we play them next.

“It could have been a bit of a banana skin for us. They’re a good team, but credit to the girls they put down a bit of a marker.

“We were well worth a 5-0 win, from start to finish we were able to make it comfortable because we worked so hard.”

Although Town will have to go some to win the competition, Robertson hopes his team can enjoy a deep run knowing the pressure is off in terms of results.

“It’s a nice to have a distraction from the league,” added Robertson.

“It takes a bit of pressure off us. We got a draw last weekend, which was a good result, against Larkhall, who are one of the more feared sides in our league, we could have folded and not turned up, but credit to the girls.

“The League Cup for me is one we can take a free-hit at, we can go as far as we want to go.

“I’m not entirely sure I can say we can win it, but hopefully we can go further than last year and as far as possible without putting ourselves under pressure.”
