A REFRESHED Shield & Dagger side were pleased to get their league campaign under way as they were able to slice apart Village Inn.

After having their first game of the season against Avtar postponed, Chris Esjmont's side were finally able to get up and running on Saturday with a 3-1 win.

It was the manager who opened the scoring for the visitors before Jake Johnson converted from the penalty spot just before the break, following a handball on the line.

Shield were able to wrap up the win when Nathaniel Harrison got his head to a corner at the back post with 15 minutes remaining.

“It was an even contest and in fairness to both sides we both had players missing,” said assistant manager Brian Brogden.

“It was end to end and it was quite an enjoyable game to watch from the sidelines.

“We’ll just take each game as it comes. It is a new team and we have got a few young players now, because last season we were struggling a bit with old age and injuries.”

That was the only Premier Division tie of the weekend with both Tawny Owl and KS Miltax in Wiltshire Junior Cup action.

The league leaders were able to record a 4-2 win over White Horse to progress, while Miltax lost 4-3 at home to Castle Combe.

In Division One, Ramsbury remain top despite a 5-1 defeat away to Swindon Centurians.

North Swindon WMC were in rampant form as they beat basement side Wheatie Wanderers 11-3.

Morris Street moved to within three points of the top with a 2-1 win over Bassett Bulldogs, while Core Construction had the same scoreline as they overcame R&D United and Sport 4 Pinehurst recorded their first win with a 4-3 victory over Moredon.
